Mac vs Vista

What is the big deal about the Mac OS? Many people I work with are buying a
Mac. They say that the new Vista program is not so great. They also say there
is no need for a anti virus program. What I want to get a Gateway PC with
Vista but my coworkers say I get a Mac OS. The Mac seems so overpriced. What
are the pros and con with these two OS.

Purchase a Gateway PC with Windows Vista and a 22" LCD monitor
and you'll be so much pleased than the MAC folks.

Video editing is MUCH better with Vegas which only runs on Windows.
<smurk> Otherwise the advice is good, buy what you want. Macs are
over priced, the software is way over priced ofter limited in scope
where you get two choices, something real cheap, or ultra expensive.
Like with video editing. I forget the name of the entry level
application but it is affordable, and according is mostly a toy. Final
Cut Pro, the so-called professional grade video editor is about $1500.
Vegas is half that, does more, faster, better.

Hi Carey,

I have both a newish Dell PC running Vista as well as an iMac G5. I enjoy
using OS X immensely, it has all the unixy tools and I have come to think of
it as "Linux that works". It is also far and away the sexiest piece of
hardware ever made, even my wife loves it and she is not easily impressed.

I am also having a great tmie with Vista, it does a number of things faster
than XP did on the same machine and runs hardware (my HD Tuner) which
neither SuSe 10.2 or XP were able to do. Being very familiar with both
interfaces I have to say that Vistas' is more beautiful and, dare I say it,
gives a more polished "experience", though the OS X 3D cube metaphor for
changing user desktops is very spiffy.

Basically I've got the best of both worlds !

There is absolutely no need for virus protection on an abacus either.

No need for an anti virus program? Gee I wonder why.
You will probably never need a translator if you stay in your back yard.

Thanks for the replies all. I love using XP and want to go with Vista. It
just seems that the imac is too of money. I will continue to research both
systems, but I think I want to stay with MS. I don't do much video and I'm
not into video games at all. I just do Word documents and a ton of photos.
Thanks again......Monty
