Mac OS

What is the big deal about the Mac OS? Many people I work with are buying a
Mac. They say that the new Vista program is not so great. They also say there
is no need for a anti virus program. What I want to get a Gateway PC with
Vista but my coworkers say I get a Mac OS. The Mac seems so overpriced. What
are the pros and con with these two OS.

All is in the eye of the beholder. It has been mentioned that the Mac
OS X is what Windows should really be, more so since it has adopted many
of the hardware features that were originally designed for Windows, such
as the PCI bus, video cards, hard drives and even the Intel CPU. And also
for the fact that the Mac, although over-priced and more dumbed down, is
a far easier machine to use than the Windows-PC box. But on the downside,
the Mac also carries over the clunkiness of what makes the difference
between a Mac and a PC. I'd say get one...it would not hurt. We have been
a Windows-Mac shop for the 20 years that I have managed the place. They
are not really that much different.

Muslims hardly ever recommend Judaism, Jews hardly ever recommend
Christianity, and Christians hardly ever recommend Islam.

Similarly, Macintosh users hardly ever recommend PCs or Vista, and PC users
running Vista hardly ever recommend Macintoshes.

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

This may not be the best place to ask <g> since people have very strong
opinions on the subject.
It is true that many more viruses are written for windows computers than for
MACs, but that's cause there are so many more windows computers. And yes,
there are viruses that infect MACs, so there is no free ride there.

If your co-workers are saying to get a MAC, do they have one? Why is it
that only 6% of all the people have MACs? Will your co-workers use the
computer or will you? And the mac seems overpriced because it IS
overpriced.

True, Macs are a bit more costly than similar Windows PC's, but the
advantages are numerous. One rather significant thing is that Macs can run
BOTH Windows AND Macintosh operating systems (OS X). If you don't like one,
you can easily switch to the other. If you desired, you could buy a Mac,
install Windows, and never even use the Mac part. You can even run Windows
INSIDE the Macintosh OS. The choice is reason enough for some people.
Also the Macintosh just works. There are maybe 20 viruses in the world now,
but the chance of getting one is incredible rare because infecting a Mac is
much harder than Windows. It is based on a version of UNIX, which has been
used and perfected by some of the smartest people on the planet for well
over 30 years. When you think how much time is spent fixing Windows it is
really rather amazing. People make entire carreers off the fact that
Microsoft products need constant repair and maintenance.
This makes a huge difference in your life not to have to worry about things
like that.

Just to clarify one minor point. The Macintosh that is running Windows
inside the box is equally vulnerable to viruses and malware, just like
any other Windows-PC machine. It's an OS issue...not the machine.

And that's only because it's not time efective to commandeer that OS
yet. once there are enough installs to make an attack worthwhile, poof,
instant chaos!
