Vista not genuine build 6000

I cannot access anything on my computer. I bought vista through the digital
locker, via circuit city, around the time of vista release, however as of
yesterday as soon as i choose a profile on my computer i get a black screen
that says in the lower right hand corner that vista is not genuine. i cannot
activate it via internet because my computer will not connect and i cannot
activate over the phone because it does not give me the code for activation.
I called the activation center and they said they could not help me. I have
Vista Home Premium, upgraded from Xp. The computer cannot access the internet
for updates and ect.

See if you can do this.

Ask the Wintards whether they can help you to install Ubuntu. If they
so 'no', then ask to speak to a supervisor. Maybe he/she will be able to
help you.

Cheers.

Stupid advice, but not surprising coming from a Linux lover. Obviously your
advice doesn't solve his problem!

Well, according to some, this never happens to anyone but "thieves" and
"victims". According to some MVPs, this never happens despite the multitude
of complainers on the MS Genuine Windows Advantage forum.

So, thank you for being our first complaint.

Assuming you are not a thief and are attempting to run a pirated copy of
Vista, just pick up the phone and call MS. You'll be fixed in 10 minutes,
tops! Oh, wait, you already did that and they "couldn't help you."

So you are left having to use the means provided by MS to illegally extend
your trial period to get to a point where you can get help.

Just remember... "It's not a kill switch."

~~~~~~~
So, on to your problem...
First of all, limited functionality should not take you to a stand
still. Even the worst case of "ehanced limited functionality" should still
enable you to connect to the internet for up to one-hour. (I have never
witnessed this, but that's what is written up on the topic. Some like to post
that if it hasn't happened to them, it never happens.)
If you can reconnect to Digital Locker, you should be able to reinstall
the upgrade, unless you do not have a disk. (I hope you burned a disk.)
If not, go to a computer that can connect, download the product from the
digital locker and burn it to a DVD. Re-install.
Or, borrow a disk. Anyone can try Vista from any Vista disk, but to
authenticate and continue to use, you need a valid Product ID (a license.)
Use the disk to upgrade to the version you bought and use your Product ID
during installation. Then, activate.
Activation is part of the agreement. If you don't activate, woe unto you.
The real question is:
How did you get to this point?
Pirate?
Victim?
Installed a bad driver?
We all want to know.
I cannot log on to windows, i get a black screen that claims that vista is
not genuine. I cannot run any programs, and i cannot go to websites for
updates. I have an intenet connection that is active and works, however when
I attempt to activate windows over the internet or use the option to use the
computer in limited functionality, it attempts to open a web page to
microsoft, and fails, i get an error.
Again, I cannot log onto windows. When I click on a profile I get black
screen, not a black destop, in the bottom right hand corner it says "Vista
not genuine build 6000" about every 15 - 20 restarts and going through that
process a screen will pop up asking me to activate windows. thier are 4
options, over the internet which give me an error, buy a lincence using
reduced fuctionality which cannot connect to the internet, over the phone,
which it does not give me the code so they cannot help me, and I cannot
rember the forth one but it is equally as useless. I purchased my copy and I
am the owner since you would like to know. And i already went through the
activation when Installed the software a month ago. I just want the software
that i purchased to work properly. When I called the the rep on the phone
said that screen was impossible because it could not be cracked. So right
now they are fairly useless with solving this issue.
I would start over and see if you get better results or try your local
computer shop.
Okay, I'm reposting because I believe you missed the important part amongst
all the rhetoric:
If you can reconnect to Digital Locker, you should be able to reinstall
the upgrade, unless you do not have a disk. (I hope you burned a disk.)
If not, go to a computer that can connect, download the product from the
digital locker and burn it to a DVD. Re-install.
authenticate and continue to use, you need a valid Product ID (a license.)
Use the disk to upgrade to the version you bought and use your Product ID
during installation. Then, activate.
This will get you to a point where you can get help.
Andrew,
After IE7 opens up and fails to load the page, do this-
type C:\ into IE's address bar and hit enter.
Then navigate to c:\windows\system32
Find "cmd.exe" in the system32 folder.
Right click cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator".
Click "Continue" on any prompts you receive.
After the command prompt (CMD) opens up, type this-
slmgr -rearm
Wait a minute or two, you'll get a confirmation box that pops up.
Reboot.
After you reboot, you'll have the option to activate again,
or will be given the choice "Ask Me Later".
Just clarify things a bit:
Be sure you are clicking "Use computer in limited functionality"
Then:
Find "cmd.exe" in the system32 folder.
slmgr -rearm
Hit enter after typing that.
Remember to click "Continue" on any prompts that pop up.
If you press f8 soon after boot, and choose the 'Safe mode with networking'
option, you may be able to connect to the Internet via a connected computer
with an active Internet connection
It offers a long term "solution". Either MickeyMouse support starts to get
the message that they can't leave Windows users in a quandary like this and
need to help them or they'll look at an alternative or the OP does indeed
move on to Ubuntu and permanently gets out from under MickeyMouse's
bullshit.
Cheers.
ok so you can log into the reduced functionality desktop mode right?
using that desktop you can then pull up the activation wizard and use that
to get the info for the phone line.
also could you post your full build string? There's something that I'm
somewhat curious about.
No luck it informs you that Vista is not genuine and tells you to restart
normally. safe mode with CMD works tough.
I tried and had no luck, I got error code 800a01a8, object required:
'g_objwmiservice'. I was on the phone with microsoft last night and they
really couldnt help me, even with the cmd promt. We tried system restore but
the
shadow copy was not valid. Pretty much out of ideas at this point the were
willing to refund the money so i could go buy a retail copy instead of the
digital locker version.
i cannot get to the desktop, the reduced functionality is just ie7 that
cannot connect to the internet. the activation wiazzard that pops up about
every 50 restarts now does not list a phone number nor a code for them to use
to validate the os. im not sure of the bild string but if you could tell me
how to display it from cmd I will gladly tell you when.
Ok the problem was solved. The computer was in selective start up, and this
was the issue. Computer is runnning fine now.
righthand corner of my desktop it now says THIS COPY OF WINDOWS IS NOT
GENUINE.i have spoken to tech support they told me to download another tool
to resolve this but when i run it it tells me it wont work with this
