vista, black preview

I'm trying to import an .avi file into windows movie maker on vista. it
imports but then when i go to preview it, its black. the sound works fine and
the file works in every other video player I have (vlc media player and
windows).

any help?

Maybe the .avi is not fully compatible with Movie
Maker but it may be worth a try to uncheck the
filters at...Tools / Options / Compatibility tab.
