Edit Clips - No Video

We are working with AVI clips in Windows Movie Maker. Unedited, the clips
play fine. When we edit the clips, the video image disappears. The preview
screen is black, but the audio continues to play from the new starting point.
Can you help?

Maybe the .avi file is not fully compatible
with Movie Maker.

Thank you, John. You were correct that the problem was one of
incompatibility. The file format we were trying to edit was AVI (Xvid). I
followed your links to the Microsoft Download Center page and was able to
obtain a useful conversion program: Windows Media Encoder 9 Series.
