Since yesterday my system does not boot-up - even in the safe mode. Several
errors appeared on the screen.

1. Winlogin.exe - System Error; Unknown Hard error
2. LoginUI.exe - System Error; Unknown Hard error
3. Instruction at 0x74d7ac86 referenced memory at 0x00000001. This memory
could not be written

Since I upgraded from XP through an upgrade disc sent from HP, I also do not
have the DVD from MS.

Is a total system recovery the only way to solve the problem?

Any help will be appreciated.

Interesting about this issue is - it worked until I shut the system down and
I could never reboot again.

Any help will be appreciated.

Is this an Anytime Upgrade disk or a regular Upgrade version of Windows
Vista DVD? If its a regular upgrade DVD you should be able to boot from it
and a system repair.

Hi Ragu,

If the upgrade disc you got from HP is a Express Upgrade installation
DVD/CD, then you might be able to do a Startup repair or a Repair
install if that did not work. See these tutorials for how.

If it is not, then you may have to do a complete system recovery.

Shawn,

I tried to use the express upgrade disc. It did not work. The tech support
at HP asked me to run an extended check on my hard drives. This check showed
that one of the hard drives was unreadable - the one that had the system
software in it.

HP will send me a replacement drive. I have to pay to get the files
recovered from the working hard drive.

Once I install the new hard drive and I will reinstall VISTA. Let us see
what happens..
