virus?

In W2K, MS OL 2002 suddenly won't open at all. Not from shortcut; not from
desktop; and not from Start/Programs. Also not from clicking an e-mail
address in Word.

1) I’ve recently had a significant increase in the amount of spam getting
through both the ATT and the MS Outlook spam filters. It frequently carries
a subject line that I have used recently myself or the “from†name or the
subject are reminiscent of a person’s name or a topic that I have recently
discussed in an e-mail.
2) Within the past 48 hours, shortcuts to IE and OL have not responded
until I try them a second time.
3) Just now, when I tried to open IE, I got a dialogue box informing me
that “the operation can not be completed because yada-yada are missing.†A
bit later it worked fine.

I have just reverified the following:
MS AntiSpyware is active.
Norton Autoprotect is active.
My virus definitions are dated 1/25/06.

I have just visited MS Security Help, but didn’t find anything applicable.

Yes, I clear my cache regularly. Every 24 hours or so.

What else should I be checking? And what shall I do now that OL won't open?

Thanks much!

My recommendation is to dump the Norton product, download Avast Antivirus
Home Edition from http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html, install
it, register it online (it's free for home users) and configure it to scan
your drives.

When you uninstall the Norton product, turn on the Windows firewall by going
to your "Control Panel" and clicking on " Windows Firewall".

Then I would download the trial version of SpySweeper from
http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/?WRSID=41b5c5ababf90f5c34a1b6459b044506
and run it. It is worth the $29 bucks to buy it. Leave it running after it
removes the spyware. At the same time you install it, remove MS
AntiSpyware.

Let us know how things work after doing these things.

I forgot to add, use Firefox instead of IE.

I tried here the other day

www.ewido.com

rang the online checker and it fixed a number of my
problems. I don't know the company but before running it, my
research showed it to be reasonably popular and I saw
no -ive statements
