Help and Support Center opens after long interval

I am running Windows XP-Home SP2 and IE7 with all updates installed. I have
looked through the MS forums for an answer but I haven’t found anything
similar to my problem. It first began (as far as I know) after I installed
IE7 but I can’t blame IE7 with any certainty. When I left-click on the
Start > Help and Support shortcut the page eventually opens but it takes an
exceedingly long time. No error messages appear meanwhile. It is as though
nothing is happening with no disk activity, at least that I can detect.
Thinking that there might be a problem with the shortcut I made another
referencing helpctr.exe in C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\ and put it
in Start > Programs but opening Help and Support Center from that shortcut
didn’t change the behavior either--the page eventually opens but it takes an
exceedingly long time. If someone can suggest a remedy other than a
draconian re-install of Windows XP, I would certainly appreciate it.

You might want to look through the posts in the internet explorer newsgroup
