virus restore question

Hi. I have been getting virus warning email returns to
email addresses I haven't sent to. I gat the critical
patch updates for microsoft before the virus raised its
ugly head and recently upgraded my virus software to
detect the current worms. The problem is that my virus
software said that if there is any possiblity I might be
infected to go use the sobig killer. On these
instructions for worm removal, there is a step I am a
little afraid to do. They say that I should turn off the
system restore on all drives as the virus may hide in
there. When I started to do this, the warning that I
can't restore any problems that might occur from my
actions, I decided to seek help. I have windows XP

just disable the system restore, it will do the rest,
the only reason they suggest you disable system restore
is to prevent the virus, or other programs such as worms
and trojan horses from being restored the next time you
restore your system using system restore, it will n ot
hurt your system in any way, except to make a restore
after removing the virus impossible, this is only to
prevent the virus from returning to a cleaned hard drive
after a system restore, so disable it and you will be
fine.
