Virus Removal....Help

This afternoon i got a message from Norton Antivirus that my system was
infected with W32.Welchia.Worm in the system32.Dll of my main drive where i
have the Windows XP Home. I tried to remove it but did not succeed nor was i
able to quarantine it.
Can someone please advise as to how this is to be removed without formating
the drive.
Shall be very grateful for any advise or help.
