Virtual PC help needed please?

New laptop, with Vista.

Installed Virtual PC, created an XP whatever to install XP into,
finally got the XP CD to start up, got the setup.exe to run, got the
Welcome to Win XP screen, BUT.....the install XP option is greyed out!

Please tell me how to get XP to install in the Virtual PC? The
Virtual PC site doesn't help me one bit :(

If I can't get XP working on this laptop in the next few days, I am
returning it and get a laptop configured for XP.

Did you create a fixed disk with enough hard disk space to install Windows
XP? How memory did you allocate to the Virtual Machine?

The Virtual PC operates exactly like a separate computer. It sounds like you
may be trying to use an XP 'Upgrade' disk to install XP. You need to have a
full installation disk to install XP onto a new Virtual Hard Drive.

I don't understand. If VPC operates like a seperate computer why can't you
do a clean install with an upgrade xp disk and verified with a Win 98 disk
during the install?

I allocated 80G to the Virtual Machine I believe. I had (and still
have) no intentions of using Vista at this point in time.

My WinXP is not an upgrade, it is the real thing.

Maybe I should just remove the hard drive I created with the Wizard,
and start fresh?

Thanks, but I don't think my news server has that one..I'll call
tomorrow and ask that they get it.

I'll also look at Microsoft's site to see if I can find it there.

It is not an upgrade disk, it is the full thing....

I got to the screen saying Welcome to Win XP, with the 3 different
options, but the first option of installing XP was grayed out.
