I upgraded to Vista Ultimate from Vista Home Premium, then downloaded Virtual
PC 2007. I cannot get my XP disc to open into Virtual PC, just keep getting
a black screen with "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot
media into selected boot device" How do I access the XP disc or get it to
open into the Virtual PC to install?? I saw some help pages on the web with
the blue XP installation screens but cant seem to get to that stage....please
help!

Mount the CD Drive, perhaps? It won't be accessed automatically.

Click the CD menu. Pick "Use physical drive D:" or whichever drive letter
your CD drive is. Press the right Alt key and the Del key to reboot the
virtual machine.

making progress but now XP stops installing partway through SETUP, and tells
me the disc is not valid and to insert a valid Windows disc..although it is
my personal XP disc only used on my last computer...? do I need to purchase a
new XP disc? Is this XP disc outdated, being around 6 years old....?

Try cleaning the disk. It sounds like a problem reading the disk. It may be
the disk or the drive.

Cleaned disc, but now it went to : Setup cannot find a previous version of
Windows installed on your computer, etc....and wants me to install an older
windows CD which of course there is none, this being a brand new Vista
Ultimate PC..?? So any ideas on that?? thanks!!

yes that is probably it...no SP2. I guess I will need to spring for a new XP
disc, there goes a couple hundred! thanks

It sounds like you have an upgrade XP disk. Put in a disk from an older
version of Windows and the install will continue.
