Views & Flags

I'm trying to create a view which shows only unread conversations AND
flagged messages (whether or not the latter are read - the equivalent of
the old OE "watched" messages which stay visible regardless of other
settings). There is a setting under View > Expand or collapse groups >
Always show unread and flagged messages which sounds ideal - but this
alone does not do the trick; ALL messages, including those that have
been read, show up. If I customise the view to apply a filter to show
only unread messages the flagged messages disappear too - it would
appear that the "unread" filter overrides everything else. Is this a bug
in Outlook, or is there a way to do it?

Regards,

Bob

That nearly got it - it showed new messages and the flagged messages -
but all the conversations disappeared - it didn't show the other parts
of the conversations. I think I'll give up on this one ( I guess I'm
trying to have my cake and eat it too, as they say) - it seems like too
much effort for the convenience it would bring. It was so easy in
OE/Windows Mail. I can always go back to using Windows Mail for
newsgroups instead of NewsHound - but that has its own snags too - no
British English spell checker for one. Thanks for your help anyway -
much appreciated.

Regards,

Bob

outlook doesn't have the concept of watched messages - you'd need to flag or
categorize the entire thread for a view to work.

I had come to that conclusioin, Diane. I found lots of ways of flagging
and/or colouring the messages, but none to view them as I wanted. As it was
mainly for newsgroup messages that I was reading in Outlook (with
NewsHound), so I finally gave up and went back to calling Windows Mail for
newsgroups which handles that sort of thing with no trouble at all. That has
it's limitations, but is the best option all round.

Yeah, that is a big limitation of the nntp addins. They aren't really for
serious newsgroupies. I like newshound for support of the technet and msdn
forums but only use it for reading those - I'll stick with OE/Mail/LM for
the communities that have nntp support.
