expanding conversation

Outlook 2003 on Vista Home Premium SP3

I have used Outlook express and Windows mail for years. I like having
messages grouped by conversations and have been able to get this to work in
Outlook.

The help file says:

"Note By default, only unread and flagged messages are displayed.
Otherwise, the conversation remains collapsed until you click the arrow next
to the conversation heading."

Is there anyway of over riding this so that all messages (read & unread) are
always displayed?

Sure. View, Expand/collapse groups, Expand all groups.

if you are a keyboarder, Ctrl+left or right arrow keys will collapse or
expand individual groups; Ctrl+numeric keypad's - and + will collapse/expand
all groups.

I found what I was looking for so that the conversations always expanded.
There's an option under "group" that sets the default as "always expanded"
that seems to be doing the trick.

And now a somewhat related question...this "group by conversation" seems to
work fine for my e-mail lists. What is the equivalent to sort by
conversation then conversation index (puts newest conversations on top) for
ordinary e-mail messages from friends since conversation is blank for these
messages? I guess I am having problems getting this "threading" to work for
all folders. I seem to have to set the "view" settings for each folder
indivdually and it is not always working.

Group by conversation, sort by date - if they sender doesn't use outlook the
messages won't be threaded - they'll just be sorted by date.

That's probably the problem. The messages are a mixture of my messages using
windows mail and her responses using outlook. I'll see if the messages
thread correctly now that both of us are using Outlook. Thanks for your
help.
