Outlook should gather all conversation threads by a mouse click

Office Online just published an article called 'View your messages by common
thread or conversation' It says that all parts of a message conversation are
shown when you select to group by conversation. My experience is otherwise. I
replied as follows:

This would be great if Outlook functioned this way. However, it does not.
You forgot that the sent messages are in 'Sent Items' They do not join the
conversation until moved to the same folder as the original message. My users
have to be trained to move all sent items to their proper folders, to see the
whole conversation.

But, really, Outlook should be able to retrieve all threads (replies and
forwards) for a conversation, no matter which folder they are stored in, by a
simple click of the mouse on any displayed message. It really needs to
function that way. Don't you think?

How about right-click 'Gather Thread' or 'Show Thread'

Would this be workable for you? Set up a custom Search folder and include
both sender and receiver email addresses in the From... and Sent
To...sections. The Search folder will then show both incoming and outgoing
messages.

No. That requires a manual move of the messages from the 'Sent Items' to
another folder. We already do that. I would like to see an automatic
gathering of the thread (not the message subject) by Outlook itself without
the need to move messages.

I agree with what you are wanting from MS. But while waiting for action from
MS, using a search folder does not require any manual moving of messages from
the Sent folder. Once the search folder criteria is set up, it will
automatically display the the Inbox items and the Sent items in the Search
folder.

I am familiar with the feature you describe below, but it seems not to work
for me all the time.

Recently, I have an e-mail in my inbox called "RE: Issues list". When I
highlight it>right click>Find All>Related Messages the search only finds the
one in the inbox that I just highlighted. I can manually navigate to 2
others in my sent items.

My Find All Related Messages Search is looking in Drafts, Inbox and Sent
Items, so why is it not finding the ones in the Sent Items folder.

BTW, this is an issue you can find on many boards and internet searches, yet
I have not been able to find a coherent answer other than some intermediate
user like myself hypothesizing that the search eliminates Rich Text messages
from its query.

Can you advise?

I have the same problem as djl. In fact "right click/show all related
messages" appeared to be working properly at one time, but now it doesn't
return any messages not even the original message?!!? Outlook 2007 defaults
to inbox, sent items, and regretably, the entire personal folders when doing
the search.

1) I would like to resolve this issue of "show all related messages"
returning zero records

2) After #1 is resolved, I want to change the DEFAULT search folders of this
right click feature. I don't want to have to click stop, change the search
folders, then search again.

I tried re-indexing from the Windows control panel but that did not work.
Then I turned off indexing for the Personal Folders file in Tools/Instant
Search/Search Options and I DO get the expected results. I kept getting the
message from OUtlook that indexing was not complete, however, I never figured
out how to complete indexing and doing it through windows control panel
didn't do it.

So now, how could I change the DEFAULT search folders of this right click/
Show all realated messages feature. I don't want to have to click stop,
change the search folders, then search again.
