View Objects - Internet Temporary Files

I had an issue submitting a form on a website, a message dialog box
stated, "Security Certificate has been revoked, this is not a trusted
site." So, I sought help from sbc/yahoo chat help and that person had
me delete all the files in the object view under the internet temporary
files heading, along with the cookies and files. Well, that did not
fix my problem, but now I find difficulty going to other website and
having to reload some programs like shockwave etc. My question: Was
this an extremely horrible thing I did, deleting all of the objects? I
am confused since they were under the heading of temporary, so I felt
it most be okay, but now I am having problems since I have done this.
thanks in advance for your time and effort regarding this issue. Best
Regards

Generally, the list of items at "View Objects" are ActiveX controls that can
be reinstalled as necessary as you visit web sites that require them to
display or function as intended by the author - such as Shockwave Flash (as
you've already noticed), chatroom controls, photo site upload tools, online
games, virus scanners, etc. However, some items in that folder are put
there by installed programs such as QuickTime or the software firewall
ZoneAlarm and really shouldn't be deleted. So, just blindly deleting
*everything* there is not a good idea.

To get rid of your original problem, in IE go to Tools...Internet
Options...Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section, uncheck the box
besides "Check for server certificate revocation (requires restart)", click
Apply, click Okay, reboot.

Thanks you very much for responding. Your information actually did work
for me, unlike the previous advice I received and I didn't have to make
any major changes or delete necessary files. Thank You!

I also, appreciate your information regarding what sort of files could
be contained in the view objects folder. I am so angry with myself,
for following the previous suggestion to delete all of those files
without getting a second opinion first! I know better than that, or at
least I thought I did! I amaze myself how incompetent I can be at
times and I am furious with myself! These files didn't even go to the
recycle bin. I suppose if I receive error message when certain
programs aren't working well, I will have an idea as to why. I should
have posted here sooner and it would have saved me a lot of
frustration.

Thanks again for the very useful and helpful information. It is
greatly appreciated!

Best Regards

You are most welcome. Now you know where to come for help first. A lot of
those ISP chat help sites have the person on the other end working off of
"scripts" to provide general help for common issues. So, you can get
erroneous information that way. Fortunately, in this case, it wasn't that
bad, and is something you can recover from if you run into problems with a
missing ActiveX control you need in the future. This site is a peer-to-peer
help forum, with responses to queries from Microsoft MVPs -
- and others users of the product with
real-world experience in troubleshooting issues, both common and uncommon,
such as yours.

Thank YOU for the positive feedback.

Wow! That is so awesome of you to share the MVP link. I am book
marking that link as well as keeping it in a permanent file for future
reference. I indeed learned a valuable lesson that was not too costly,
this time. I really should have known better, I guess one side of my
brain was not working at the time. My faith in humanity remains intact
thanks to you, U R the Best!!!
