Depends very much on whether your video card has inputs for capturing
analogue video. Most newer camcorders use Firewire connection and if you
have it you can capture into Movie Maker which is part of XP but does not
support burning to DVD, you'll need other software for that.
A good entry level software is Ulead DVD Movie Factory but the important
thing for now is to check your video card and check your camcorder if it has
other outputs besides s-video.

I have the same problem. Cannot get the finished product to write to the cd
or dvd. keep getting an error message:

QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS
Message: Trying to save a movie created and saved in Windwos Movie Maker to:
a Cd. The Save Movie Wizard says the CD is not readable are writeable. I've
replaced and checked several different disks. I even burned some files from
other programs and they worked. What is going on?

Hope some one has an answer!
