Sir

I need your help in connecting my Panasonic Video Camera to my Desktop
PC(Dell Optiplex GX 620, Pentium IV,3.2 ghx memory,Firewire Connection(1394
Net adaptor),OS-Windows XP Professional (Latest Update))

I am listing below the necessary information you may need for assisting me:

1.Video Camera-Panasonic NV-DA1EN

2.The camera uses PC’s serial port (9 pin)for transfer of still picturess,
When I connect my camera using Serial port, still pictures can be downloaded
without any problem using DV studio Software supplied by Panasonic(Came with
the camera)

3.It uses the firewire connection (DV-in socket (4 pin) in Camera to 1394
Port in PC)for transfer of digital video/pics. However, the camera is not
recognized when connected using Firewire port (6 pin)and the Digital device
dialog window does not pops up when the camera is connected,

4. IE 1394 card is recognized perfectly by the computer.-IEEE 1394 Host
Controller is visible under Devices in My Computer properties.I had earlier
used this firewire connection (IE 1394 card) and the IE 1394 connecting
cable, to connect my laptop to PC and was successful/

5.Using ZA free as firewall and I don’t think that it is blocking the
connection

6. Understand from Google search that users who have installed XP2 are
having the problems. Is it so?Any fix from Microsoft available? I have the
latest update of the OS.

7. Under Device manger there are no yellow indicators

8,The Video camera,I understand, does not need any special drivers. It is,
supposed to be found by XP.

9. Tested the camera with my laptop (Win Xp- no update) and could download
movie thru firewire connection and hence camera is not the problem

10.Even applied Microsoft patch WindowsXP-KB885222 but no luck with Desktop

Looking forward to your help.
Regards

You may need to check ZA for blocking the 1394 Net connection. Or disable
ZA when not connected to the internet. Firewire is a network connection.

The following was the solution for me:

1) Boot in safe mode
2) Rename SP2.cab in C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\SP2.cab to SP2old.cab
(this prevents XP from RECOPYING the following files which are replaced)
3) Overwrite these files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

1394bus.sys
arp1394.sys
nic1394.sys
ohci1394.sys

With older XP SP1 versions (which you can download off the net somewhere):

4) Reboot

Note: If not done in safe mode and cab file not renamed, the SP2 drivers are
copied back by XP.

There is a well known issue with XP SP2 and 1394.

I am experiencing similar. I have a Canon MV730i and compaq nx7010 laptop and
it has stopped being detected. Also I have used the IEEE 1394 connection
between my desktop and laptop and that no longer is working. The device
driver thinks it is happy.

Any further luck?

Andy
