Video problem

Michel S.

Hi !

I'm working on a P3-733 computer. Mobo: Intel D815EAA, integrated
graphics (82815 graphics controller)

This computer currently (and correctly) runs under Win98se, with a
video resolution of 1024x768, 24 color.

I installed XP-Pro (sp2) on a new partition of this computer. Upon
completing the installation, the video resolution is set to 800x600,
4bit color (16 colors !!). So far, I've been unable to set it to
something else.

Even when XP pops a baloon suggesting to click on it to improve the
graphics resolution, nothing changes when I click on it.

I went to Intel site to find that there are no drivers availiable for
XP. The Win2k driver refuses to install, with a "wrong OS" message.

I deleted the graphics chipset in the device manager and rebooted, but
at no avail.

Any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend purchasing and installing a good
AGP video card.

If there is no winxp vid driver you might want to ensure the rest of the hw
supports winxp, before you go too far

Thanks for your suggestion.

According to MS HCL site, the D815EEA2 is supported. While the DS815EEA
isn't on the list, an article I found on the Intel site states that the
differences between the two models is that the EEA2 has more USB
connectors and the game connectors were removed.

As a matter of fact, I found (and tried) graphics drivers for XP on the
D815EEA2 page and that solved my problem. There's still a gray zone
here because the french version of the page tells that the listed
drivers "applies also to" D815EEA while the english version don't say
the same thing.

The only thing I won't try is to flash the EEA bios with the EEA2
latest version ! ;o)

And for the remainder of the hardware, I'm sure they are fully
supported in XP.

Thanks again.
