graphics problems

My computer won't leet me set my display settings above 4bit color and
800x600 resolution, my graphics card can handle way more than this (NVIDIA
GeForce4 mx 4000 with 128mb onboard memory).

what can i do to fix this problem

Have you updated your video driver? It may have gone corrupt as well - not
unknown. With the MX series it's usually best to get the drivers from the
nVidia site itself as opposed to the Microsoft site. The current driver
package is pretty large but seems to work well here. You may try removing
the drivers and rebooting and seeing if the problem is fixed when XP finds
the hardware again.
