Video not working with Logitech QuickCam Express

I have a Logitech QuickCam Express USB video camera which is not working
with Windows Messenger Version 4.7 (4.7.3000). I try and initiate a video
conversation, the invitation goes through successfully but no video appears
(even in the preview windows on the host system). The camera works fine in
all other video related apps and I regularly send video via NetMeeting 3.01
(5.1.2600.2096).

The Logitech software is current (Version 8.2) and all Windows patches are
downloaded and in place. I have three systems in my house and have the same
problem on all three. Two are running Windows XP Pro with SP1 and one is XP
Pro running the current SP2 Release Candidate. Since the camera works with
the Logitech software, they refuse to provide any additional assistance.

The camera is listed on the approved hardware list of WebCams for Windows
Explorer.

Troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

One additional piece of info. If I run the Audio Tuning wizard, I do see a
video preview. So, WM does see the camera. While I do have a Linksys
wireless router (BEFW11S4) the firmware is up to date and I assume there are
no configuration issues coming into play as NetMeeting works.

I have the same issue with the same camera. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

OK, here's how I fixed this...

First, unplug the webcam, then uninstall all of the software that came with it. Now restart the computer.

Next, download and install Messenger 6.2 - make sure the currently installed Messenger isn't running. Restart the computer.

Now, plug in the webcam. WinXP will begin to install the webcam but will need the LV532AV.SYS file from the Logitech CD - point the install wizard to your CD drive and the folder Drivers->WinNew->Elch. The wizard should finish and the webcam should be installed. Restart the computer.

Open Messenger and click 'Tools'->'Audio tuning wizard...'. Click 'Next', then select the Logitech webcam from the drop down and click 'Next'. It will likely tell you that the camera is not connected or another program is using the camera - just ignore that and continue through the wizard and click 'Finish'.

Sign in to Messenger and select to start an audio converstation (you'll need a contact that is signed in to be able to do this). Once you and your contact have established a good audio connection click the webcam button at the top. The camera should be working - you should see yourself in the lower right hand corner and your contact should be able to see you on their end.

It worked for me on two seperate computers - I hope it works for you.

Rob
