Error message when trying to insert a large mpg 1
file: 'Powerpoint couldn't insert a movie from the
selected file. Either the file is non standard, or
Quicktime is not installed properly'.

Cant understand what its got to do with Quicktime
although its installed alright and the file plays alright
in Windows Media Player but not in mplay32.exe.

There are always so many posts on video problems, why
haven't Microsoft finally solved all these anonmlies?

Can anyone help me on this one. Great forum.

You cannot "Insert > Video" for a Mac Quicktime video.
You have a couple of options (at least). Convert the
Quicktime video to mpeg or avi if you have the resources
or use your "Slide Show > Action Buttons" options to Link
to the Quicktime video. This will cause the
quicktime "skin" to open within your PowerPoint.

See the information at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm . Since your
video won't play in mplay32.exe it won't play in PowerPoint. Section 3 of the
tutorial tells you what your MCI settings should be and you should compare yours
to the lists provided.

Is this video file from a digital camera? If so, what is the make and model of
the camera?

Thank you for your response. I'm aware what the MCI
settings should be as per the article but these appear to
be correct. The video file was a VHS tape imported into
Pinnacle Studio and rendered using the 'Multimedia'
option for mpgs. (Using a PC running Windows XP)
I have other machines that this is working fine on but
not this one. (HP Compaq - 6months old)and its driving me
mad. Appreciate any further advice you can offer.
