Cannot load a movie in a PowerPoint 2002 Presentation file

When I click Insert, Movie and Sounds, Movie from File...,select an .mpeg
file, click OK I receive the following message:

"PowerPoint couldn't insert a movie from the selected file. Either the file
is non-standard, or QuickTime is not installed properly."

How can I resolve this to use Windows Media Player?

Background:
QuickTime was installed but has been uninstalled.
The file runs fine in Windows Media Player. I have tried several .mpeg,
..mpg files
All the file associations for .mpeg etc extensions point to Windows Media
Player
I have tried inserting different .mpeg, .mpg files and they all do the same
thing
I have tried different powerpoint files and they all do the same thing.
In the past I have been able to do this with no problem.
I have done the knowledgbase search and applied the recommended regedit
changes in areticle 212409 with no change in outcome.

Anyone know what is missing?

Al,

I suggest re-installing Winpdows Media Player 10. When you installed
QuickTime it hijacked a number of system settings.

As an alternative, give PFCMedia a try. (Free trial from www.pfcmedia.com)

Uninstalling medi player and reinstalling made no difference.
In Media Player10, under options, file types, I selected all--they were
already checked, Apply, OK. No difference.

I'm reluctant to use the pfcmedia solution because it does not address the
problem directly. I would like to have my user continue in a way he is used
to. He has hundreds of these powerpoint with movie files.

Other ideas?
