Video Display problem.

Hi guys,

I have a strange intermittent problem with my video to the monitor from a
Gateway machine. It sometimes loses video completely at very odd times. At
first, I thought it may be the onboard video that may be failing. However, i
loaded the BIOS optimization defaults and set the video to a slightly lower
resolution. Since then, I was able to monitor the machine overnight with
cycle reboots so often to make sure the video was still showing fine. I even
looked at Event viewer for any signs of video halt errors e.t.c but found
nothing and did the dxdiag test for direct X which passed fine. today, i
gave the machine back to my friend and they were doing something in Internet
explorer 7. the video went out and when i came to check the screen, i tried
hitting the 'ESC' key and the video did come back up showing her logged on,
but Internet explorer was not running which was running when this video
signal disappeared. Could IE have caused this issue? I don't see why, but
would like to further diagnose the video issue. Can someone shed some more
light on hardware and software diganosis of the video for this machine?
Thanks very much.

maybe the cable needs replacing.

also, there may be a scenario on
their end, whereas there may be
a high degree of emf.

or maybe the power is dirty and
they have an intermittent problem
where spikes are being generated
through out the home.

the above are just some
thoughts, since the issue
seems to be ok on your
side.

what they might try to do when
they have the machine on their
end, to run the system in safe
mode w/networking and then
monitor the situation.

of course, since the a.v.'s
will be disabled in this mode,
they should refrain from venturing
their usual places and stay on
safe websites during the analysis.

if the video is ok for many
hours in safe mode, then it
is likely that something is installed
in normal mode that is causing
the issue.

Their power is fine and the power is plugged into a UPS. I've even tried
switching monitors on their side and no difference, so is not the cable
either. Only happened when they started using the pc at an intermittent
point. However, what is strange is that it came out of this no signal mode
when i hit the ESC button. Something really strange is going on. Wouldn't
mind rebuilding this machine if it wasn't purpose built for an application.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas on the diagnosis.
Thanks,
