Videcard again

Trevor Appleton

I made the following query here on 28/12:

Is there a correct newsgroup to ask about video cards. Running XP SP2. I am
at a distance from home. I brought a spare video card out of an old PC
hoping to fit here where I have a spare Monitor, but the connector pins are
a different shape. I have run Belarc Adviser which gives the following
information for the display adapter.

Is this enough information to enable me to buy a second video adapter? What
type would I be looking for?

RADEON 7200 [Display adapter]

The reply I got suggested that I needed an AGP card. I got one of these, but
it won't fit in the slot (is it PCI?) The videocard seems to have a
different slot to the normal expansion slots.

Presumably what I really need is a dual graphics card (AGP?) Which one do I
get that will definitely fit in the slot? Cheapest one (no gaming)

I have an added complication here in that the PC is in France and I have to
take the card I've bought back to send back to DABS to reorder.

There are video groups but you have to have more information about your
system requirements. If all you want to do is add another monitor you can
get a PCI monitor card if you have a spare PCI slot. If you want to replace
your present card with one that will support dual monitors then you need to
know if the mother board has an AGP or PCI Express slot.

If you are now using a 7200 you could replace it with a 9000 for example
if you can find one on Ebay.

Your best/least troublesome option would be to buy a dual display card, for
whichever slot you have on the PC.

Beleric should give details of the motherboard, Name/version, and its slots

There are a least 4 different slots types, so you would need to post your PC
or motherboard model for a more specific response

I believe the radeon7200 is an old AGP card, allthough it may be that its an
onboard chip.
Being in France is not a problem, assuming you can converse. Its probably
cheaper to buy there and return your dabs at some other time.
The info you posted is insufficient.

The AGP slot is a brown one above the white pci ones. Your motherboard may
not have one for it.

Belarc gives following for mBoard details if any help?
