Very Slow Favorites Folders

I have some of my favorites organized into seperate
folders. When I open 'Favorites' I have my folders on
top, which contain anywhere from 5 to 20 shortcuts each.
A while back these folders started taking a very long time
to open...like 15 seconds. I can drill down the explorer
and open these folders with out any problems but this kind
of defeats the purpose of saving time...I can not relate
any specific event to when this slow down began, but I
have not made any signifigant changes to hardware or
software recently. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

i have easier method....14 'links' across the width of
screen (toolbar) and under each link is 10 sites/folders.
