Organizing Favorites Issues

I have a 'long' list of favorites in my Favorites folder, and I try and keep
them organized. However if I should change, or move a specific favorite up to
the top of my list, close out of Explorer, then reopen it, it got moved back
to where it was. It is 'really' getting frustrating as I have already spent
hours organizing my favorites the want I want them viewed down the column,
and they just won't stay where I put them. I have individual favorites as
well as file folders with lists of favorotes in them, and my list will show
several file folders, then individual favorites, then more file folders, then
more individual favorites, 'and so on'! They don't seem to follow any
pattern, such as individuals, folders, or even alphabetical. I have tried
moving them with the favorites column open and I have tried moving them in
the 'Organize Favorites' window, but neither will hold them in the order that
I want them in.

First time here, so if anyone can help, please do so...

Hi Frustrated :)

Try the following and see if it helps.

Organize Your Web Favorites Using Internet Explorer
http://www.library.kent.edu/users/bschloma/bookmark/

If sitll no joy....then try this, it's a very good organizing tool.

FavOrg: To save Favicons - Free
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Bookmark-Managers/favorg.shtml

This allows you to save them permanently in a different folder and
re-associate your favorites with the stored icons. It also verifies whether
your links in Favorites are still good.

also...

Hello,

Appreciate the information... the first link you listed didn't work, took a
look at another, and the last required a download to view it. Not trusting
downloads these days... long story.

Also didn't want to create a separate folder to put my favorites in... The
reason I am so fruatrated is that this once worked! I was able to organize
all of my list the way I wanted it, but for some reason it doesn't work
anymore. And I did get all the lastest Microsoft updates. Explorer is suppose
to do this! I am trying to fix some fix that will make it work the way it is
suppose to...

Hi Frustrated :)

Sorry about the bad link. You don't mention the version of Windows you are
using, which really is a must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but,
try the following as it may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

Here is another link with information regarding organizing your Favorites:
http://www.infopackets.com/channels...6_organize_favorites_in_internet_explorer.htm

It is possible that your problem could be related to recent program updates,
not necessarily Windows updates.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Clearing the Temporary Internet Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Note: Any links listed in your Favorites (including any pages you saved for
offline viewing) will not be deleted when the History is cleared normally.
Therefore, you must also check the box next to Delete offline files on the
dialog box as well when you clear the Temp Files to be sure all files are
deleted.

also...

Your Favorites or History folder may be corrupted. See the following steps
to delete and recreate these folders starting with the Favorites folder:

First, backup your favorites by going to the User account with the
problem.....

Open Windows Explorer (not IE), then navigate to the User account that has
the problem. Then open the Favorites folder, copy all the files in that
folder, then create a new folder called Favorites_New and paste all the
Favorites in that folder. Then delete the old Favorites folder, close
Windows Explorer and then reboot your system to allow Windows to create a
new Favorites folder for you. Then copy all the files from the Favorites_New
folder into the new Favorites folder and try reorganizing again. If that
does not work, the follow the steps here to delete the History folder and
create a new one.

To create a new History Folder
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm (XP systems)
or..

Open Windows Explorer (not IE), then navigate to the User account that has
the problem. Then navigate to the History folder and delete it, close
Windows Explorer and reboot your system to allow Windows to create a new
History folder for you.

If still no joy, then do the following:

IE Fix
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm
This will restore IE back to the default condition.

Hope this helps.
