VERY Slow Boot on XP Home

Newbie asks: I just upgraded my HP Pavilion 8556C (PIII,
640MB RAM) from 98SE to XP Home - it checked OK on the XP
compatibility test. It has the original 17GB C Drive that
booted OK under 98SE. It now takes over 4 full minutes to
reboot - warm or cold. Any thoughts?
Thanks for wherever you can point me - I don't wanna go
back to 98SE.
