VERY long shut-down time

I've installed Windows XP new on my second laptop and everything worked fine
until it started, that I can't shut it into hybernation (shift+ log off),
obviously some driver is impeding the unproblematic re-awakening. Just how do
I find out which one it is?

And secondly, the shut down command invokes a ~6 minute period where nothing
is happening before the PC actually starts shutting down, which takes quite
long itself.
Could that be related?
How could I test that?
Thanks in advance

I like that quote. I should read first and ask afterwards. There could be a
"sticky thread" about shutdown procedures here, might reduce the amount of
folks asking.

Let's see what they say.
