Hello- I am trying to open an internet site and simply cannot seem to open
it- but it is only this one site. I haven't had a problem with any other
site.

Here is what I have done:
- tried opening it with Internet Explorer, Netscape, and FireFox no luck
(but I can open hundreds of other sites)
- cleared cookies, history, temporary internet files
- uninstalled all security programs (Firewall, anti-virus, filter, etc...)
- changed all security settings in IE to low
- uninstalled Service Pack 2
- I have tried all of these on my desktop computer and my laptop computer
and keep getting the "Page Cannot Load" error with both (or a session timed
out/connection denied with Netscape)
- I went to my sister's house next door and can access the site without any
problems (we both have the same ISP so it isn't an ISP problem).
- the technical support for the site I am trying to view says "it is
something with your system contact Microsoft"

I am stumped and very frustrated. I really need to access this site.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance,

Liz

What's the site's URL?

OK, it's not a browser problem since you've used different browsers -
and it's not an ISP problem since it works from your sister's house.

So, what's in between those 2 points (the ISP and the browser)?
Some possibilities - Firewall, Router, Modem, Network Connections,
Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, etc.
Since your sister's next door - can you lug your system over there and
see if you can connect through her cable with your computer (or even lug
her system to your house to check your cable with her system).
Next, check any items (from above) that you know that you've worked with
and see if there's any Internet settings that you may have changed.
Try disabling your current Internet Connection and create a new one (in
Network Connections) to see if the new connection can connect.

Good Luck!

I accessed it at my sister's house using my nephew's computer. I even set
his computer to connect to my wireless network and was still able to access
the site- so it isn't my network settings. But, it is probably worth a try
to bring my laptop over there to connect to their network and see if I can
access the site.

I am the parent and I'm not blocking the site ;)- besides I uninstalled all
filters and other security measures and still cannot access the site.

All javascript settings and activeX settings are enabled (in fact just abotu
everything is enabled simply because I have no idea what is preventing the
site from loading)

I was able to ping the site and all 4 packets sent were received. I am just
completely baffled.

Thanks,

Liz

Are you saying you took your laptop to your sister's place and could
access it there, or that your sister can access it?

Are you using a router and have you checked those settings?

Are your parents blocking it? ;-)

Maybe you made them mad and they are blocking you--do you have a static
IP address?

Do you have Java and Javascript enabled? Have you tried turning off the
popup blocker? Of course this is not important if you could access with
your computer at your sister's.

My next guess would have to be based on the fact when you take you
laptop to your sister's but cannot access the site.

That would mean your two computers have (or had) something on them which
is keeping the site from being accessed. Doesn't seem very likely, but
if they have been set up the same with the same type of software, it
could happen. Perhaps something put the site in a restricted zone.
Since you use different browsers, and since I am not an expert on how it
is done, all I could suggest is to look at your hosts file and see if
the URL is listed with a 127.0.0.1 address in front of it.
(windows/system32/drivers/etc) Open it in notepad to read or modify.
If there is a line like it (not the 127.0.0.1 localhost line), put a #
in front of the line and save, then restart your browser.

Is one of your computers wired, or both wireless?

Clark

Well, I discovered where the problem is. It is in my wireless router. I
have a wired and a wireless router (the wired router has two phone ports and
was supplied by Vonage).

I went to my sister's house with my laptop and connected to the site fine.
Then I hooked my desktop computer up to the wired router and connected fine.
So, now I just have to figure out what setting in my wireless router is
blocking the site.

Thank you all very much for your help and suggestions.
