Verifying DMi pool data... then nothing...

P

Peter

hello,

Recently i tried adding an IDE raid card to my system
along with a new hard drive, but i came across problems so
i put it back to how it was and the computer got stuck
on 'verifying DMI pool Data....', and i couldn't figure
out why all the settings in the bios i put to defult i
made sure all the cables were properly connected.

So i had a thought i'll try to install windows on the new
harddrive (set it to master) then plug the other h/d (the
one with the stuff that i would like back off it) in after
(put it as slave) and see if i can start up windows then.
I installed windows xp ok on it, then i shut down and
plugged the old one in, but then on restart it gets stuck
on 'verifying DMI pool data' again, one thing i did notice
this time was that just after its checked the IDE devices
it says this quickly, 'PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL NO 80 CONDUCTOR
CABLE INSTALLED', i don't know if that means anything to
do with it but if anyone would be able to help me here i
would be very grateful. ( you can email me if you want)
Thanks,

Pete.

P.s. I am currently using the IDE slot off my Mobo and
missing out my DVD drive at the moment.

Hi,

The error is pretty cryptic, and what it means is that either:

- The one cable you are using is not plugged into the primary ide slot
(might be loose or you may have it in the secondary controller slot)
- The one cable you are using is a 40 wire cable, and it's looking for an
80 wire one (this is critical for proper data transfer support in ATA66 or
higher)
- The cable is in the right spot and is the right type, but is bad
- The primary ide slot is bad (not good, new MB time)

right i put in the windows xp disk and made it so it saw
that first through the bios ( this is when both h/d's are
connected), and it said press any key to boot from cd so i
didn't press anything and windows loaded and i got that
little speech bubble thing saying that its found new
hardware, then it went quickly, so i went to device
manager and it reconigizes that it is there, but it
doesn't show up in 'My computer'..

Anyone got any ideas on how i can get to my files?

Thanks,

Pete.

Is it partitioned and formatted and mounted with a drive
letter. Rt click> my computer> Manage> storage/disk
management> find the disk in lower pane, Rt click on the
bar at top of the disk and partition, format and mount.

Hi Pete,

Start/run diskmgmt.msc, have it rescan all disks. What does it say about
that drive now?

Possibly, how was the drive originally setup and formatted?

Hi Pete,

I'll rephrase that:

Did you use Windows setup to partition and format? Or did you prep it ahead
of time with drive overlay software?
