dmi pool data....

My OS is Windows XP Home Edition SP2, after installing a new Hard Drive,
after booting I get this "verifying dmi pool data...." every time I started
my system, after 30 seconds Windows boot correctly. My privious hard drive
is Maxtor ATA hard drive (20GB), the new one is WD IDE hard drive (120GB),
The settings for hard drive are correct, No Floopy or CD in computer causing
issue, Connections are not loose or disconnected. My question is in order to
avoid this problem do I need to install ATA hard drive not IDE hard drive.
What is the difference? Also if I set the maxtor as master and WD as slave,
everything goes ok. the problem is when I set the WD HD, as master. I hope
you understand this problem, Thanks in advance for your help....!

Observation of "verifying dmi pool data..." is normal in many cases.

If you mean there's an apparent delay until windows starts while the Maxtor
is slave, put the Maxtor on the secondary instead of primary ide connector.

Sounds like you have been a bit cavalier with the Harddrives in the box.
What drive does the Operating system currently reside on? What drive is
the Active partition on? ATA is the same as IDE. I suggest you remove
the Maxtor and see if the system even still boots.

Bob, thanks for trying to help me.... to clarify when I use the old hard
drive Maxtor 20G, there is no "Verifying dmi pool data" if I remove the
Maxtor HD, and install the new one Western Digital Enhanced IDE Hard Drive
120GB, I get "Verifying dmi pool data" after a little pause, windows started
normally. What do you think is causing this problem? I used the utilies that
came with the new WD HD, to copy all files in the Maxtor to the Wester
Digital.
Will be better if I make a clean installation on the new Hard Drive, istead
copying the files?
OS currently reside on C: Drive, I have one partition only C:\
Thanks one more time.

WD's normally have a "Master with NO slave" jumper setting, check that.
Also you may want to go into BIOS and check the ESDI refresh is done
once. I think your BIOS is remembering the Maxtor and needs to "adjust"
to the WD. Forcing the BIOS refresh should move it thru "verifiying dmi
pool data" quicker.

THANK YOU, BOB
With your help, the problem was resolved. Now everything is ok, "verifying
dmi pool data" is not showing any more when I started Windows.
