Various STOP Message's

I've been getting various stop messages since I built my new computer about 6
months ago. The latest one I got was 0x7F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP with
the parameter 0x0000000D(An exception not covered by some other exception; a
protection fault that pertains to access violations for applications).

I have found something that might be useful in finding the source for all
the stop errors I have got. The only time I have ever got a stop message is
when the computer is in stand-by mode. I've never gotten one when stand-by
mode is disabled. Any advice on how to further troubleshoot this would be
appreciated.

That one's documented here:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...0/server/reskit/en-us/prork/prhd_exe_jadf.asp

Is it an AMD CPU or an Intel flavour? If it's an AMD, there's a CPU driver
update on AMD's site.

Have you checked Event Viewer for clues? Start --> Run, type: EVENTVWR.MSC
and click OK. In both the "Application" and "System" submenus, you're looking
for events with either a red X or a yellow warning triangle on them. Double
click those which should lead you to MS links to possible hotfixes.

Hi Corey,

Do you have SP2 installed? There is a known problem that caused the 0x7F
error that was resolved with it. Otherwise, I would suspect that you have a
driver issue if the only time it occurs is when you are in Safe mode.

Thanks for all the reply's.

S.Sengupta, I had already checked out that link and it basically told me
stuff I already knew about the error.

scrubber, thanks for the link but none of the suggestions to fix it seem to
apply to me. Nothing has been changed on my computer since I built it and
all drivers are up to date. I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 3200 CPU. I looked
at the AMD site for an update and didn't find any. Do you have a direct link
to it? Event viewer just shows the stop error, no other clues.

Rick "Nutcase" Rogers, I'm running XP Pro with SP2 and all the newest
updates from Windows Update. This may have just been a typo on your part but
I said the error only happens win my computer is in stand-by mode, not safe
mode.
