variations in sending email & I.Messaging

Hi, forgive me if this is not the correct newsgroup, but I thought I'd start
here.
I always use yahoo for email and for Instant messaging. But if needed, I can
use my email that I got through my ISP (dial-up)-
Questions:
(1) Is it possible to send .wav &/or .avi files to an email address where
the recipient has also a yahoo address?
(2) Also, while Instant messaging, can I place a link to the person I am
chatting with so that she can click on it to open it and see (avi) or hear
(wav) a file.
Is there a program that I need. Is there a free one. I dont have any
experience on this but if someone knows, please help. thanks alot.
windows xp - sp1 - dial up- and have security for my pc.

In MR <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is in the middle of your sent message:

This really isn't the place, we're not Yahoo and the majority of your
questions are about Yahoo but I can't really think of a better place for you
to post this so it's okay. I, at least, don't mind.

Yes but Yahoo probably has a file size limit on sent and received files.
They're going to have to be small. If they and you use Yahoo instant
Messenger (which it seems you do) then you can also send a file through
Yahoo which is probably a better answer for your next question than the one
that I'm going to give you.
(2) Also, while Instant messaging, can I place a link to the person I

There's a number of ways to do this. Do you own the legal rights for
distrobution of the file you're trying to send? If you do then you can
upload it to a website and make a home page and the links will be there for
anyone you want to have download them or anyone who happens upon them. You
can also use www.yousendit.com to send files. As I mentioned above you can
easily send right through Yahoo.

Is there a program you need? Well you already have Yahoo. To post to a
website you'd either need free hosting or to pay for a webhost. You'd need
either to buy a domain name or use a subdomain if available. To upload the
files you'd probably have an option to use a web interface with many hosts
these days though you could use FTP which can be done with Internet Explorer
easily enough though doesn't have the added functions of setting permissions
which you'd have to use command prompt for and, to be honest, really isn't
the easiest thing on the planet to do. Freeware FTP clients are available
that will do all you want and more but there's much better answers above.
I'd stick with Yahoo if you only intend to send a couple of files and you
want to share them with only a single person. If you want you could use
yousendit.com and share the URL that they give you after you upload it with
as many people as you want to and it will stay on their servers for a week
the last time I checked.

Keep in mind you're on dialup which means that to upload files for sharing
is going to take a while and limit your other online activity considerably.
While you're at it you might want to get Service Pack 2 (SP2) from the
Windows Update site. Open Internet Explorer, click tools, click Windows
Update or order the CD online for free from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx
