I had a network with 1 laptop and 2 pcs using a linksys router. They all
worked fine. All three were running Win98SE.
I sold the laptop and bought a new laptop that has WinXPpro. I ran the
network wizard on the laptop and now I am having problems.
The laptop sees both pcs and can access both of them. Pc 1 does not see the
laptop, pc1 sees pc 2 but can't access it, pc 2 sees the laptop and can
access it, pc 2 does not see pc 1.
Can you give me some help?
Thanks,
Ron

I've written a web page that should help you get everything working:

Adding Windows XP to an Existing Network
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/addxp.htm

If the network uses TCP/IP for file and printer sharing:

1. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers, as
shown here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

2 Run "ipconfig /all" on XP and look at the "Node Type" at the
beginning of the output. If it says "Peer-to-Peer" (which should
actually be "Point-to-Point") that's the problem. It means that the
computer only uses a WINS server, which isn't available on a
peer-to-peer network, for NetBIOS name resolution.

If that's the case, run the registry editor, open this key:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

and delete these values if they're present:

NodeType
DhcpNodeType

Reboot, then try network access again.

If that doesn't fix it, open that registry key again, create a DWORD
value called "NodeType", and set it to 1 for "Broadcast" or 4 for
"Mixed".
