Validity of IE patch from "security@microsoft"

Jeff

I keep receiving emails from "Security@microsoft" with a
patch to fix IE problems. My Norton Antivirus keeps
deleting the patch and I don't want to open it for fear
it could be a virus. I'm not sure if this is really from
Microsoft or not. Can anyone confirm the validity of this
email? (text listed below)

Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now!
There are dangerous virus in the Internet now!
More than 500.000 already infected!

Hi Jeff,

it's a virus. Microsoft never emails patches.
Probably Sobig-B or something similar.

Jeff,

Microsoft *NEVER* distributes software via email. The mail which you
received is not from Microsoft, though the from address says so.

Please go through: Microsoft Policies on Software Distribution:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/policy/swdist.asp

NOTE: If you receive an e-mail that claims to contain software from
Microsoft, do not run the attachment. The safest course of action is to
delete the mail altogether. If you would like to take additional action,
report the e-mail to the sender's Internet Service Provider. Most ISPs
provide an "abuse" userid for this purpose.
