Validation Key

I bought a used computer and the validation key that the diagnostic test
showed is not the one on the bottom of the computer. Neither key is valid. I
don't have the money to buy a new program. I am uable to do any updates.
The info pasted is the test results. Any suggestions?

Maybe up a creek without a paddle. Perhaps you can download updates using
Administrive Update, where you actually download updates to disk, and save,
prior to running them. I dont know as to whether this will work, without
validation.

If this is an OEM install on an HP or Dell or similar, it is normal for the
installed key not to match the COA sticker. How do you know the key on the
sticker isn't valid, it likely is if OEM.

If you are "failing" the Windows Genuine Advantage test-BTW - you will be
permitted to download critical updates but not "routine" updates) - consider
Microsoft's offer to validate your installed XP.
By doing so - Microsoft will e-mail a product key which will validate the
installation AND you will receive a full XP version CD with it's product
key - there is a cost of $159 - a good deal considering that upgrade XP pro
runs about $195 in retail stores.
So you end up with two versions of XP at a discount.

Because I entered both key numbers to see which one was valid. Niether of
them were valid. My computer is a Compaq Evo N400c.

I can finish out this product key for you. Actually if you do a web search
of any part of it you'll get the whole number. This key is useless. It first
appeared on the web around 2001 and has been restricted by Microsoft. It
only worked with the enterprise version of Windows XP Pro.

The key on the bottom of your system is probably an OEM version or the
previous owners may have purchased and installed a retail version on Windows
XP. If you could find a copy of either the OEM or Retail CD you should be
able to reinstall the OS and then update it using that key.

How can I find a copy of the OEM or Retail CD? If I bought a update version
CD would that work?
