Using The GAL for Mail Merge

Is there a way to use the contacts in the Global Address List for mail
merge in Word 2003 ? I just consolidated everyones local contacts into
the GAL and thought I was home free. Then I find out they need to do
mail merges and it appears that mail merge only works with the Outlook
local contacts. They do not want to have to suppport multiple address
lists.

Running SBS 2003 with Outlook 2003 on XP SP2

AFAIK, you'd have to export them to a file first. See http://www.slipstick.com/exs/portagal.asp for tools and other references. But you might also check for mass mail tools that can do the merge directly; http://www.slipstick.com/addins/massmail.asp. Still another approach might be to expose the GAL as a linked table in Access and merge from the Access table. I don't know how well that would work.
