using 'System restore' to clean off registry entries

T

TANDEX

I want uninstall program(Nero) which have no its own uninstaller, so I would use Windows-uninstaller, but its not enought to clean off also the registry values off the PC?
If so, can I use windows 'System restore' option- back to date previous to program installation?
So is this way admissible for the purpose to clean off registry entries of uninstalled program only?

First off, please don't post in HTML - please adjust your reader settings to
plain text. Secondly, if you mean Nero as in the burning application, it
certainly does have its own uninstaller and it also should be listed in
add/remove programs. Do you see it there? If not, have you tried
reinstalling? I would certainly *NOT* recommend messing around in the
registry unless you really know what you're doing. What issues are you
having with uninstallation? I suggest you also contact Ahead's technical
support (www.nero.com).

Nero(Nero Express)*have no own uninstaller*!
I have uninstalled some of Nero aplications(NeroVision and Nero media
player) with windows uninstaller, but then I found, that they software
entries still remained in registry.
So, windows Add/remove program does not clean registry entries.
Uunfortunately, Ahead's technical support can not provide any more or less
clear information regarding this issue.
What i need is quality recommendations how to solve this issue(make registry
clean after Nero uninstallation), then i will reinstall Nero -only programs
that I need.

Well, the OP does have an interesting question. Does a system restore
bring back the registry back to where it was when a system restore was
saved?

Basically, what happens by making a Restore Point at some point in time
and then installing and playing around with other software (e.g. Norton,
notorious for messing up registry entries and leaving them unclean upon
uninstallation) and then restoring the system? Are we at the "clean"
state in all respects that we were in when the restore point was saved?

Sam.

Sure it does. You find it in Add/Remove. Windows does not provide
unistallers. It only lists the uninstallers set there by the apps. Of
course there is also Microsoft software that comes with uninstallers
also, but again, they just list the link in Add/remove.

Hi Sam,

Yes, creating a restore point also saves a full snapshot of the
registry. So restoring the system back to a point before a application
was installed will also put the registry back to that point. Note: The
application should always be uninstalled before dropping back, if
possible. The could be file left over that System Restore does not
monitor.

Hi,

How long ago was the Nero application installed? See my reply to your
post below.
