Yes, this is an excellent scenario in which to use System Restore.
A restore point should be created before any install of hardware or
software. Some applications do it automatically. If you are not sure
create a manual restore point. In your case install the new software
and test it to make sure it works properly. If something goes wrong
uninstall it via add/remove programs in control panel. Then restore
the system back using the restore point created before the install.
One of the automatic updates can also be used. Restoring the system in
this manor will replace the registry and any monitored files System
Restore tracks. If you are not familiar with any of the trims used
