My colleague and I are running XP. he has a problem with an application and
I want to connect to his machine using remote desktop. I've looked at the
help and got him to send me an invitation which supposed to tell me what to
do to connect. However when I click on the link on the email to the
Microsoft page I get a message from the Microsoft site that the page doesn't
exist!!!!
Can someone point me in the direction of an "idiot" guide which gives me a
step by step instruction on what to do to my machine to connect and what my
colleague should do to his.?
Many thanks
Tony

Are you talking about Remote Desktop or Remote Assistance?

XP Home does not have the Remote Desktop "host" module. You can only use
the Remote Desktop client yo connect to a Windows XP Pro or Server computer.

If you have a router in between the PCs (one or both), you need to set up
the correct "port-forwarding" for the IP protocol port of 3389.

Thanks Yves, I'm sorry I'm not sure I know the difference! Which one would
be suitable for us to use? I want to connect to his machine over the
Internet and explain to him what to do so I need to see his screen.
Thanks
Tony

You most likely would want to use Remote Assistance. Remote Desktop is used
to access say your office PC from home PC. Remote assistance will allow you
to control his/her machine and show them what to do.
