Using Projector with laptop

While attempting to do a Powerpoint presentation, I was unable to get my
laptop screen to work properly through a projection machine. My screensaver
showed up on the projected image, but none of my icons or programs did. Do I
need to change something in my settings? I tried the Multiple Monitors
feature but I'm not sure if I did it right.

What is screen resolution of the laptop ?
What refresh rate in hertz of the laptop ?
What model PC/Video Projector and what is its maximum resolution ?

The quickest method of getting the projector to do your bidding would be
to follow the instructions provided in the projector manual.
