XP laptop to LCD Projector

When I connect an LCD projector to a laptop running XP (and I have tried this
on several different laptops from different manufacturers) and go to the
monitor settings in the control pannel and check the box to include the
monitor. The only thing that appears on the LCD projection is the desktop
wallpaper, any programs I run will not show either.

Sounds like you ned to "clone" the laptop monitor rather than "extend"
the desktop.

It sounds like you have it set up with multiple displays which are set to run
side by side. Go into your Display Properties / Settings and see if you have
two monitors set up. If so all you have to do is switch them so the external
is the Primary Display, and uncheck the Extend Desktop Onto Second Display.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Sending the desktop display to a monitor port on your notebook is not
the job of the display functions in Control Panel. There is a
hardware hotkey combination that will send your monitor output to the
VGA port on your laptop. It has nothing to do with the OS.

Hi, usually this is by holding down the blue 'Fn' key and then tap
'F5'......

I have had this problem before with systems that have NVidia OEM display
adapters. You might want to check and make sure that you are using the
latest display drivers for the installed video card.

You should be able to access 3 different display modes, when a projector is
attached, using the keyboard. Try pressing the FN + F8 key to switch between
modes. This works on Dell laptops. The first mode is what you are seeing now
(Desktop only) The second mode is the presentation program (ie: Powerpoint)
and the third is the full display where you see everything that is displayed
on the laptops screen.

On one system, we had to revert to the BaseVideo setting. Go to Start/Run
and type msconfig and press OK. Click the Boot.ini tab. At the bottom of
that dialog box place a check mark in the BaseVideo option. Exit and reboot
the system with the projector attached. This option places the system in the
minimal VGA display mode. You will need to reverse this setting after you
are finished using the projector.

Don't check the box that says something like "extend my desktop onto this
monitor" - that will spread the desktop across both monitors (not give you a
copy of what is on the internal monitor on the external one). To test this,
try dragging a window from the internal monitor desktop to the right (or maybe
left) off-screen, and you may see it move onto the external monitor.
On a laptop, you usually just use the appropriate Fn key to switch the
external display on (which key depends on the model of laptop). Usually you
can choose between internal, external, or both being on.
