Use of LCD projector w/ XP Home Ed.

I cannot configure my laptop to display the laptop monitor through a LCD projector for a Powerpoint Presentation. I use to be able to clone the screen in Windows ME, but I upgraded to XP Home and i can't figure out what to do. Any ideas ?

ON all the laptops I've ever had you use a function key to toggle between
screen and projector and both. is that what you mean by 'clone the screen'?

To do this is controlled by the laptop, not by the operating system.
Check the instructions for your computer. On my Toshiba computer, I
press the Fn-F5. It could be another key on yours.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

In Windows ME, Display>Settings>Advanced> you have an option of cloning your two monitors so that what you see on one you see on the other (Like a tv and a computer). When i used the laptop for that reason, before XP, I had no problems. Now that I have XP installed, I can't get the LCD projector or tv to display what is on the laptop other than the background of the desktop (no icons). I've tried the Fn + F8 and Fn + F5 and get no response.

I have a Toshiba Satellite. I'm at a loss. I tried to show a presentation that my Boy Scout Troop put together as well as a slide show of pictures that have been taken of the troop over the last couple of years and the boys were disappointed. I can't for the life of me get the laptop to send the images to the projector or the tv. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine is a Toshiba laptop 1135. The keys are Fn-F5.

On another Toshiba 1135 I have, frankly, the ability to send a signal to
another screen or projector does not work. It sends gobblygook. I've
been advised to send it to a repair shop, but instead I gave it to my
son who doesn't need this functionality. It could be that the flaw
affecting our 2nd machine is the same you are seeing.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Check the resolution you are sending to the projector. If you are
sending too high a resolution (many projectors can't handle anything
more that 800x600) you will get garbage displayed on the screen - or
nothing.

Thanks ... tried that, along with colour depth and tried updating video
drivers. Also tried working to both LCD projector and to monitor. The
change was "sudden" in the sense that for the last year, it worked just
find on projectors and normal monitors, and then one day it didn't.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
