Using fax in XP Home

Hi guys, i tried using the fax in XP Home, but I'm stuck with this prompt "No
dial tone or phone line is in use or not connected". Pls advise. Appreciate
yr help. Tks
 
Do you have a fax modem installed with a telephone line
connected to it?

In order for you to use the XP faxing feature you must
have an internal or external FAX/MODEM installed on your
system then a phone line plugged into it.
 
"fax modem" ? - i m only using a normal modem, i dont think so. m no good in
computer term. thanks for yr help, pls advice.
 
I should hv a internal modem(56K) and hv a external modem. But a fax/modem,
i m not sure. Is a fax/modem different from a ordinary one? This one that i
m using only have a USB,line and a tel output. pls advice , thks

Looks like an ordinary modem but mostly with two phone jacks - technically,
the fax/modem understands the fax communication standards which a simple
modem cant understand. Basically, two devices in one.

You need to have a faxmodem, ie a modem capable of transmitting
/receiving faxes. Not every modem can. So check the specifications of
the modem in your system. That could the problem.
