Using CompactFlash Card Reader with XP

Plugged this into my USB port in my Gateway Pent IV - put
in the card from my Kodak CD215 Digital camera - tried to
use it but got the error message I/O Device Error -
cannot open.

Came with a CD but said it didn't need it - I tried to
load it anyway - but did no good.

Anyone know anything about this problem?

Have you tried this card reader in any other computer? Most card
readers seem to automatically install, which is probably true of this
one. Try checking its status in Device Manager (Click Start-Run-Type
devmgmt.msc and click OK). Also, try connecting the camera itself to
the computer with the disk in it and the camera turned on. It should act
the same way as the card reader.
