Digital Camera Card Reader Problem...

A friend of mine has a Kodak DX3700 digital camera and he uses a PNY
Technologies Secure Digital/Multimedia single-slot 1.1 Card Reader. His
laptop used to have Windows ME installed on it, the card reader worked just
fine on this operating system. A little while back though he had me install
Windows XP Professional on his laptop. Since then, when he plugs the card
reader into the USB port it says it cannot find any drivers for the card
reader. I couldn't find any specific Windows XP drivers for the reader but
I assumed windows may have default drivers it would use. I took the card
reader home with me than and tried it on my own desktop computer that has
Windows XP Professional installed on it. I ended up getting it to work on
my computer. I tried following the same procedure that I followed on my
computer on his laptop again and it still didn't work. So now I'm not sure
what's wrong, does anyone have any advice??

I have had no trouble reading Kodak memory cards nor using Kodak EasyShare
docking stations. After my wife lost her entry-level camera, I bought a Kodak
EasyShare DX6490 4MP Digital Camera w/ 10x Optical Zoom and Camera Dock for her
and love it (Except it does delay too much in taking pictures).

What I would do is to try to uninstall the card reader. Leave it unplugged,
re-boot, make sure no drivers are loaded, and then start over. Some leftover
driver isn't working properly, but is in the way of installing the correct
drivers.

If this doesn't work, he could give you his card reader and get a different
brand that uses different drivers. They are very handy ways of copying data
from computer to computer.
