Card Reader Problem

I have one of those fairly cheapie multi-format card readers which
always worked fine. NOw i have a new camera with a different kind of
card (SD). When I connect the camera directly to the USB with the
card in it, I can upload the photos fine. When I try to use the card
reader, the little light on the card reader goes on in the SD slot and
the drives appear in MY COMPUTER (drive G, H, etc) but when I try to
import photos using my photo software it says there is no data on the
card!

How big is the SD card? Cards of 4Gb and larger are of a completely
different architecture to the smaller cards (known as HCSD). If the card
reader was made before the architecture was agreed, then it will not be able
to read the cards. Of course, the camera will be able to.
