Using Backup to Migrate Server

I currently have a W2K Advanced server SP3 running on a twin processor box
with 2 GB of memory. It is used to run SQL Server 2000 SP3. I have just
purchased a new replacement box which has 4 processors and 8 GB of memory.
I am hoping that rather than recreate the box from scratch, I can do a
complete backup of the current server with no one on and all the SQL
instances shut down. I will then restore the information to the new
hardware. I have done this in the past with servers that had more memory
and the same number of processors with out issue.

Since this is the first time I have done anything with a 4 processor machine
and one with more than 4 GB of memory I have been doing research to see what
things could happen. I have found info on using the PAE switch to get past
the 4 GB memory barrier.

I have seen documentation on how to update from a single processor version
of the HAL to a multiple processor one. I do not think that applies since I
already have a multiple processor version of the HAL loaded.

Has anyone tried what I am going to attempt? I am sort of thinking that I
might remove two processors and only start the system after the restore with
two processors. Once I get the machine up and running cleanly, then I would
install the third and fourth processors.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
