I upgraded from 98 to xp, I wanted my wifes log in to be exactly like mine
to start off. I followed instructions to copy my user settings to her log in
and everything was fine, identical settings and desktop. However, when I
change her admin status to normal user so that some of the crazier things
she does wouldn't affect my settings, her settings have reverted back to new
user, nothing like mine.

If I reinstate her as an admin the settings are like mine again. How can I
make the new settings stick without giving her admin rights ?

Roy,
Without more details of how you set yourself up and how you then set your
wife's profile I am taking a stab in the dark. However I suspect that you
have set up the desk top in such a way that the things that you want in All
Users are not there. Perhaps you have managed to create a desk top for all
ADMIN USERS to which all admin users might gain access and have appear on
their screen if they are adminstrators.

I can only suggest that you use your admin account and look starting from
the boot drive, (I will assume C:\) look in C:\documents and settings. You
should see a number of folders, one of which will be called All Users and
another will have your user name and details. The one for your wife should
also be there. Any items that you want your wife to see on her desk top
need to be in the All Users folder, they will then appear for you and her,
anything that is for you only can go in your folder. Note that the initial
user folder also contains Desk Top and Start Folders so make sure that you
copy any items to the right location. You also need to be sure that any
entries placed in All Users or a named users desk top or start folder can be
run by that user, that is an issue of program access permissions.

It is best that common use items only appear in one location, e.g. all users
and not in both all users and under their user name folders.

You may get better responses from others so good luck!
